The Project Weather Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000.
It will be presented to seven high school seniors who excel in science.
The scholarship is granted as a part of Bay News 9's commitment to educating children about science and weather. Application deadline is January 24th.

Bay News 9 Project Weather has created news backgrounds for your use. These can be opened as a full screen on your computer and then used as the "virtual set" for your show.
Feel free to add the name of your school to the image if you'd like.
We've also included Pinpoint Doppler 9000 Radar and the Seven Day Forecast for your weather reports.
This is just one more way that Bay News 9 is your news channel, serving your community.
The Project Weather Activity Books are great for preschool and elementary age children.
They take common weather-related questions and turn them into fun, educational puzzles for kids. They are given out at hurricane expos and weather related events or you can call Bay News 9 at 727-329-2300.
Bay News 9 has been distributing their science kits for four years.
Filled with various education and interactive science activities, the Bay News 9 Project Weather Science Kits are a big hit with local science teachers.

Brought to the museum by Bay News 9/Bright House Networks, the exhibit provides hands-on learning for children and their families.
Complete with anchor desk, weather maps and camera, children can re-enact severe weather news situations.
Studio tours are given on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
Visitors must be at least 9 years old. Groups should have at least six people but no more than 20. To schedule a studio tour or to receive a "Virtual Tour" tape, call (727) 329-2300.
Bay News 9 has a partnership with Life Force Cultural Arts Academy in Clearwater.
Project Weather information is being supplied for the summer camp and after school programs. Kids there receive a Project Weather Activity Book and hurricane tracking charts along with a wall size tracking chart. One of the Bay News 9 meteorologists will speak to the kids during the summer camp about severe weather and answer questions. The kids also come to Bay News 9 for a studio tour.
The Science Center is committed to bringing quality hands-on science education to area students.
Part of that commitment can be seen in the outstanding teaching faculty who have decades of teaching experience.
Classroom programs are aligned with the Sunshine State Standards making the K-12 programs a valuable learning experience and more than just a fun field trip.
Bay News 9 has partnered with the Science Center and created a Project Weather Classroom. The room has a weather sensor and radar on a very large screen TV, along with a huge hurricane tracking chart and cloud chart. Bay News 9 meteorologists periodically assist in teaching weather classes at the Science Center in St. Petersburg. Teachers and home schoolers: to schedule a field trip call 727-384-0027.

WEATHERQUEST is a heart-pounding, MINDS-ON exhibit within Disasterville at the Museum of Science and Industry.
The exhibit features the Bay News 9 news desk and meteorologist green screen for realistic role-playing situations.

Bay News 9 produced a safety video relating to hurricanes, lightning and severe weather.
The video is used in the Winter Haven Fire Safety House and the Polk County Family Safety House. Both agencies take their safety houses to schools and community events to help educate children about both fire and severe weather safety.
Bay News 9 Project Weather again teamed up with the St. Petersburg Times Newspaper in Education to create an insert with information and activities about weather.
The 2008 edition came out in the October 11th edition of the St. Pete Times. It is geared toward high school students with information about forecasting, dual polarization, hurricane formation and more. Plus there are weather related activities using the St. Petersburg Times. Teachers, if you missed the edition, you can order the supplement for your students from the St. Pete Times. Call 727-329-2300 for a limited number of issues while supplies last.
